Content is King

When I take an overall look at my personal Internet browsing habits, I notice that like most people, I visit a certain number of websites every now and then. Why are these websites in my bookmarks? How did I become at some point a regular visitor? The answer is simple: Content.

Nowadays, it’s not that hard to give yourself some visibility on the Internet and have people visit your website. But will these new visitors remember you and return? If you don’t serve them quality content on a regular basis, you can be sure they won’t. Forums, blogs, most websites are subject to this golden rule of the Internet.

When it comes to monetizing a website, a lot of webmaster wannabes believe there’s a secret way to do things that will instantly make your newborn website a financial success overnight. There’s not such a thing. You got to do things in the right order. If you have more ad units on your pages than the number of unique visitors your blog gets in a day, you’re on the wrong path. First develop your site, create quality content and do it often, build up an audience and gain more visibility on social networks or any other suitable platforms over time.

At some point (A few months or even a year?), you’ll have a steady flow of visitors browsing through your pages and enjoying the information you are providing them with. Now it’s time to look into ways to monetize that baby. You will then have the opportunity to integrate ads as you see fit and hopefully generate a reasonable revenue out of your website. Keep in mind that content must never be sacrificed for ad units. That’s why you’ll have to carefully integrate your ad units in your website’s style, in a way that it doesn’t affect the visitor’s user experience.

Only if you do things in the right order will you have a chance to know success during your journey on the Internet as a webmaster. Good luck!

… And remember: Content is King!
